There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that features many amenities accompanying the casino, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
