There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is banned. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect area, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling den, highlights 150 slot machines and 60 table games. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that highlights a number of luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
