There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is prohibited. Eight casinos are based in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel building that features a number of amenities in addition to the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
